Where Giants Fall — v0.50 Patch Notes

Where Giants Fall v0.50 is a major update focused on new miniboss encounters, cleaner run screens, better combat readability, improved pickup visuals, and stronger overall presentation.

This patch adds three new beacon miniboss encounters, rebuilds the pause screen as the Battle Ledger, gives the main run overlays one shared golden fantasy style, overhauls XP and gold orbs, adds player status effects to the HUD, and reworks Grenade’s level-10 ultimate into a forward skillshot barrage.

Grenade Ultimate Rework

Grenade's Carpet Bombardment ultimate now fires as a forward skillshot barrage instead of a general battlefield blanket.

Major Highlights

  • Three new beacon miniboss encounters have been added.
  • Every regular stage now features all three beacon minibosses, one per beacon.
  • The pause screen has been rebuilt as the Battle Ledger.
  • Defeat, shop, loadout, Stage Cleared, and pause screens now share one golden fantasy style.
  • XP and gold orbs have received a full visual and performance overhaul.
  • Player status effects now appear on the HUD.
  • Grenade’s ultimate has been reworked into a forward skillshot barrage.

New Beacon Minibosses

Power-up beacons are now guarded by one of three minibosses. Each regular stage contains all three in a shuffled order, so you will not fight the same beacon miniboss twice in one stage.

Nullframe is a shadow and void-themed giant that blinks across the battlefield, leaves behind deadly void barrages, and hunts the player with pursuing shadow zones.

Cryospire and The Bishop round out the new beacon roster, giving regular stages a stronger encounter identity and making beacon rewards feel more earned.

Beacon miniboss combat should also be more reliable in edge cases, including situations where the player is airborne.

Giant Remnant Trials

Giant Remnant ritual anchors are now larger and easier to spot.

Anchor spell effects have been cleaned up so they show only their real gameplay effects, such as orbs, beam sprays, or poison pools, without extra warning clutter.

Anchor Trial defenders now spawn correctly again, restoring the intended pressure around ritual anchors.

Soul Chase trial goblins now enter through a polished blue shock portal and bring scattered charge threats instead of a bomber ring.

Battle Ledger

The pause screen has been rebuilt into the Battle Ledger.

Pausing now opens a large fantasy ledger showing:

  • Player stats
  • Current gold
  • Weapon levels and estimated DPS
  • Detailed selected weapon info
  • Full item collection with rarity colors and stack counts

The Battle Ledger is easier to read, fills the screen properly, dims the battlefield more strongly, and works better with mouse, keyboard, and controller.

Items now sort by rarity, with Legendary items at the top. Jump Height and Luck are always listed, and Lifesteal now only appears when it comes from a real active source.

Unified Run Screens

The main run overlays now share one golden fantasy presentation.

The Battle Ledger, Gambling Man’s shop, Active Ability loadout, Stage Cleared, and Defeat screens now use matching frames, dark panels, banner headers, and screen sizing.

The result is a more consistent in-run UI with fewer mismatched panels and cleaner visual hierarchy.

Defeat Screen Rework

The defeat screen has been rebuilt.

Dying now shows a proper fantasy panel with a clear DEFEATED banner, centered run summary, and clean Main Menu button.

The run summary now focuses on useful run information:

  • Stage reached
  • Time survived
  • Hero level
  • Weapons and levels
  • Items collected

Several broken defeat-screen layouts have also been fixed.

Stage Cleared & Shop Improvements

The Stage Cleared screen now uses the same golden fantasy style as the other run overlays. Its content is grouped more cleanly, and action buttons are anchored more consistently.

The shop has also been improved. Shop cards now scale correctly, no longer overlap, and use cleaner fantasy framing and buttons.

XP & Gold Orb Overhaul

XP and gold orbs have received a major glow-up.

They are now larger, easier to read, and drift toward the player more slowly. Orbs pulse softly, bob above the ground, emit small twinkles, and create a comet-like trail when pulled in.

Elite shards now keep their own distinct color instead of looking like gold.

Orb rendering has also been heavily optimized, improving performance during dense pickup-heavy fights.

Weapons & HUD

Player status effects now appear on the HUD, making active buffs and combat states easier to track during busy fights.

Grenade’s level-10 ultimate, Carpet Bombardment, has been reworked. It now fires as a forward skillshot barrage, throwing 50 critical grenades across 10 escalating pulses in front of the player.

This makes the ultimate more deliberate, more readable, and better suited to aimed burst moments.

The Card Gallery has been expanded with Active Ability unlock and level cards.

A sparkle toggle has been added for cleaner screenshots and trailer capture.

Card Gallery scaling has also been improved for windowed and release layouts, keeping tabs, controls, and previews inside the visible screen.

Loot Goblin Presentation

The Loot Goblin now arrives and escapes through a Midas portal.

Soul Chase goblins use a matching polished portal flow with a blue shock effect.

Performance & Stability

Performance has been improved during dense combat, especially around XP and gold orbs, damage numbers, enemy tracking, and hit effects.

Several issues around defeat flow, Card Gallery behavior, reward displays, enemy spawning, and dense combat feedback have also been fixed.

v0.50 is a presentation and encounter upgrade: regular-stage beacons now have stronger guardians, the run UI feels more cohesive, pickups read better at speed, and dense combat should hold together more cleanly.
